A father who died alongside his three young sons at a house in Surrey has been named locally as Piotr Swiderski.

Mr Swiderski and his children were discovered at a property on Bremer Road, Staines, at around 1.15pm on Saturday.

The Polish national is understood to have lived at the house with his partner and their three boys, all of whom were under the age of four.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “It’s just appalling, especially at the end of the summer holidays when they were just about to go back to school. It’s shocking.”

An investigation is being carried out to establish the circumstances of their deaths, but Surrey Police believe it was an isolated incident with no third party involvement.

The force has also completed a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because of previous police contact with those involved in August 2023.

An IOPC spokesman said: “We have been notified by Surrey Police about the tragic incident in [the borough of] Spelthorne. We will be assessing a referral from the force to decide whether any action is required by the IOPC.”

Forensics officers were seen going into the property on Sunday morning.

One woman, who did not wish to be named, said she had heard the children playing on a trampoline in the back garden regularly throughout the summer holidays.

“There was never any trouble from the house,” she said. “They always sounded happy and just seemed like a normal family.”

Floral tributes to the victims were laid outside the semi-detached property as neighbours came to pay their respects. One woman was in tears as she laid a bouquet on the ground.

Det Chf Insp Gareth Hicks, leading the investigation, said: “This is a truly tragic incident, and a thorough investigation is underway to establish exactly what happened. We would like to thank the local community for their support and understanding whilst we have been conducting our inquiries.

“We can also now update that whilst Bremer Road was closed for a significant amount of time yesterday, it has now fully re-opened and there will continue to be a police presence in the area for the foreseeable.”

Shehr Sikandari, a next-door neighbour, said he heard a woman’s “horrific screams” shortly before police arrived.

The 48-year-old telecommunications consultant added: “I haven’t met the dad much, but the children and the mum were quite lively, quite jolly.

“The children used to play in the back all the time, making noises of joy, jumping around, playing and being very happy. They were full of life. They used to often go for a walk in the park or a stroll.

“Just before the police came, we heard loud screams. We didn’t hear anything before that. We thought they were not at home – maybe outside somewhere. Usually they take their children out on their bikes, so we thought they may be out and about.

“We had breakfast outside at around 10am [on Saturday]. It was quiet and we didn’t hear anything. After 12pm we heard some screams, and then the police came.

“The woman, she was screaming. They were quite horrific screams, and everyone came out to see what was happening.”
