President Donald Trump announced retaliation after Ontario Premier Doug Ford imposed a major electricity tax on U.S. states.
Tariffs & Retaliation
Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods, accusing them of failing to stop drug flows. He suggested Canada could avoid tariffs by becoming the U.S.’s “cherished 51st state.”
Canada’s Response
Trudeau vowed counter-tariffs, while Ford threatened to cut power to 1.5 million Americans. “If the United States escalates, I will not hesitate to shut the electricity off completely,” Ford warned.
Uncertain Future
Tensions remain high as further U.S. tariffs take effect on April 2.
